This introductory course will introduce students to the traditional techniques of oil and water gilding. A historic overview of the practices and techniques of gliding will be presented, followed by a workshop where students will have the opportunity to participate in every step of the gilding process. On sample boards and wooden objects students will practice the techniques of preparation for gilding, including application of gesso and bole, and will learn to handle and cut gold leaf.  Other topics covered in this class will include toning and patinating gilded surfaces, and techniques of decoration and enhancement, including scraffito, pastiglia, recutting and stamping. This is a great opportunity to add this skill to your surface decoration techniques.
