Dovetail Jewelry Box With a Veneered Panel Lid

Learn the techniques commonly found in good sound box construction. To start we will draw the box we're to make including the dovetail layout. Then building the small box will give you a chance to explore the layout and cutting of dovetails in accordance with box construction. This will be followed by layout and cutting of the rabbits a that has a paneled top and bottom. We will also use the table saw to cut the grooves and stop grooves to capture the top and stop grooves that will accept the top and bottom panels.before glue up you will be able to veneer a panel for the top using figured veneer or do a book match or end match using the age old technique for hammer veneering and clamping cauls. Techniques you will learn include layout and cutting of thru dovetails, gluing and squaring the structure as well as cutting the box apart for perfect alignment. Also you can install a pair of box hinges or leave it as a lift off top with alignment strips. All of the methods you learn for this project can be adapted to other dovetailed pieces. This class will get you started by teaching you many of the typical applications of dovetailed boxes.
