DESIGNING & DRAFTING FURNITURE

Drafting for furniture is directed to those that need experience in laying out furniture projects. This course will begin with the use of the drafting tools and line definition. This will be followed by the principles of orthographic and isometric drawing techniques using wood joint for the subjects. Discussion on the principles of proportioning furniture using the golden section and the Fibonacci sequence will be facilitated. Using what the students learned in the joinery section, and applying the proportioning principles, students will incorporate the joints in a full size furniture layout, and a detailed stock list will be developed for a simple furniture form. If time allows, each student will be able to design a piece of furniture of their choice under the instructor’s guidance.
